Finding A Name
To make life easier for mere mortals all sites are allocated a name. These names ( often called domain names ) are registered ( for a fee ) with a central authority to ensure that there is no duplication. Some computers on the Internet are designated as 'Domain Name System' servers and are responsible for translating the domain names ( which you type ) into unique numeric addresses for software to use. These numeric addresses are often referred to as IP or Internet Protocol addresses and look like four groups of numbers separated by a full stop, eg 192.168.0.1 You will need to find a unique name for your site. You can use the form below to check on the availability of a domain name. Please provide a value for a domain name ( don't add the www. ) and select one of the extensions (i.e., ".com", ".net", ".org", "co.uk", etc.). You can also use our Domain Name Wizard to assist you in selecting a domain name or you can search globally using our Global Domain Name Search.
